Afrin …Cutting down olive trees continue by the pro-Turkish armed factions’ militiamen

Human Rights Organization in Afrin Despite previous decisions taken by local councils regarding logging, armed militiamen and settlers cut down olive trees without deterrence or take any legal measures against them.

Activists said settler Abu Ayman from the town of al-Ristan, Homs governorate, on Monday morning 04/01/2021, cut down 9 olive trees in the field of the Kurdish citizen Saydo Brimo. He was confronted with his action and committed a crime, but he denied his act, and when he presented evidence through a picture of him wandering between the field and cutting down trees, he returned and confessed to his heinous crime, but he refused to compensate the owner of the field with the financial value for the trees that he cut and made them firewood.

The armed elements of the Hamzat faction controlling the Bablite village of Jenderes town, on Friday, 01/01/2021, cut down about 220 olive trees belonging to three brothers, they are:

1 – Abdul Qadir Sheikh Gadro, 100 olive trees
2- Abdullah Sheikh Gadro, 70 olive trees
3- Mustafa Sheikh Gadro, 50 olive trees
The brothers have filed a complaint with the mayor of Marate, who is considered a member of the so-called “Restitution of Rights and Grievances” committee, without any results so far.

It is worth mentioning that since the invasion of the Turkish army and the armed factions and groups of the Afrin region, kidnappings campaigns against Kurdish civilians continue with false pretexts, in addition to cutting down olive and forests trees for selling firewood without legal and moral deterrence.
